Stichting NewTechKids is delighted to announce that the 4K 4Charity Fun Run Series, headquartered in Portland, Oregon, has chosen us as one of two non-profit organizations to receive donations raised via its annual fun run in Amsterdam.

The event will take place Saturday, September 16 in Amsterdam as part of the IBC2017 Conference and Exhibition. All proceeds from 4K 4Charity Fun Run Series benefit nonprofit organizations that support increased diversity and inclusion initiatives.

“We’re pleased to support the 4K 4Charity Fun Run and honored to help our industry community build awareness and raise funds for diversity and inclusion,” said Laura Barber, 4K 4Charity Fun Run founder. “We chose Stichting NewTechKids as one of this year’s recipients based on the organization’s commitment to bringing computer science education to girls and boys in disadvantaged communities. A solid understanding of technology is vital in a world where technology touches nearly every aspect of life.”

Since the inaugural 4K 4Charity Fun Run event took place at IBC in 2014, the series has raised more than $450,000 USD in gross proceeds for nonprofit organizations and attracted nearly 4,000 participants. With the endorsement of IBC, the September event will raise funds for Stichting NewTechKids and global nonprofit partner Heifer International, which links communities and helps bring sustainable agriculture and commerce to areas with a long history of poverty.

Bringing Computer Science Education to Children in Amsterdam Southeast

Stichting NewTechKids plans to use the donations to expand CS and technological literacy education among primary school students in Amsterdam Southeast, a low-income, largely immigrant community.

Since September 2016, we have launched a series of 21st Century Skills Clubs there which provide free, after-school CS programs for children ages 7-12. To reach more children and introduce computer science into primary school curriculum, Stichting NewTechKids is working with local organisations and primary schools to develop teacher training programs and online teacher training resources.

Deborah Carter, Stichting NewTechKids’ Head of Fundraising and Strategic Partnerships, said “We are encouraged to see how committed the 4K 4Charity Fun Run is to making computer science education available to children who normally don’t have access to it. By investing in these children, we are investing in their futures and the future of their communities.”
