Stichting NewTechKids is heading into new territory. We’ve started integrating Arduino-based lessons into our programs for older kids (ages 10-14).

According to the computer science education pedagogy we’ve developed, students in primary and middle school learn best when learning tangible objects.

Arduino is an excellent tool to teach design, prototyping and programming. Its hardware and software are already set up so kids can begin programming in JavaScript right away. In a short space of time, kids can design prototypes and then program them to perform tasks such as flashing lights or powering robots.

Our aim is to teach kids fundamental computer science concepts, beginning with pen and paper exercises, arts and crafts and games before moving on to technology tools such as LEGO Mindstorms and now Arduino.
