On September 15, 2018 hundreds of supporters will be taking off on the 4 km/2.49 mile 4K 4Charity running and walking event through Amsterdam.

This event is one of three events in the U.S. and Europe to raise awareness and financial support for global and local non-profit organizations which promote diversity and inclusion initiatives related to technology education for children and young people. Since its founding in 2014, the series has raised more than $684,000.

Stichting NewTechKids is thrilled to once again be beneficiaries of the 4K 4Charity Fun Run in Amsterdam. At Stichting NewTechKids, we believe technology and computer science education needs to be available to all students, including girls, minorities and children from disadvantaged communities and events like the 4K 4Charity Fun Run help us make that a reality.

“Increasing diversity and inclusion in media and entertainment means educating and supporting the next generation of industry professionals and leaders,” said Laura Barber of AWS Elemental and co-founder of the 4K 4Charity Fun Run Series. “We’re humbled to see our technology community come together once again to help Stichting NewTechKids and Iridescent make a meaningful impact for children in need.”

Through the proceeds from last year’s 4K 4Charity Fun Run, Stichting NewTechKids organised a teacher training program for primary school teachers across the Netherlands which enabled them to introduce computer science to students ages four to 12.

Some key statistics from this program:
– 650 primary school students taught with 58% students from international schools and 42% from Dutch schools
– 27 teachers trained from across the Netherlands, 85% female and 15% male teachers
– teachers spent an average of 40 hours on teacher training program
– 100% of teachers reported no differences in the capabilities to learn computer science between girls and boys
