Stichting NewTechKids is dedicated to conducting research to improve how primary school students learn computer science and how their teachers are trained to teach it. We conduct independent research and partner with universities, technology companies and organisations focused on computer science education in schools.

Teaching Rising Technologists in Amsterdam Southeast

Stichting NewTechKids has published a new report which outlines our experience teaching primary school students in Amsterdam Southeast, a largely low income, minority community. The report is based on the observations of our teachers during two, 10-week ‘Introduction to Computer Science’ programs we taught to children ages 7-10 from January to April 2017.

Training Primary School Teachers to Teach Computer Science

From January – April 2018, Stichting NewTechKids trained 27 primary school teachers from across the Netherlands to introduce computer science to students ages four to 12. This report outlines the teachers’ understanding of what computer science is, their mindset about learning this new subject and their observations that there are no difference in the learning capabilities of girls and boys.
