Heidi Freeman was one of the teachers who participated in Stichting NewTechKids’ computer science teacher training program in Spring 2018.

She teaches students ages five and six at the American School of the Hague.

Here, she shares her experience of learning how to shift her students away from just using technology by teaching them how technology works. She also talks about participating in online teacher training through Stichting NewTechKids’ Share to Teach online teacher training platform.

Heidi’s biggest revelation: that teachers can teach students about the science and principles behind technology and computer science without any computers, technology or coding!

Stichting NewTechKids is providing consulting services to the American School of the Hague to help it integrate computer science, technological literacy and computational thinking into its formal school curriculum. In Fall 2018, we’ll be working closely with it IT Coordinator, Technology Integrationist and primary school teachers to develop a curriculum and supporting lessons.

Stichting NewTechKids is again organizing its popular ‘Introducing Computer Science in Primary Education’ program in Fall 2018. This is the same program that Heidi completed in Spring 2018.
